OHSU Welcomes BODY WORLDS 3 to OMSI

Sponsoring the anatomical exhibition of real human bodies and the accompanying lecture series offers unique educational opportunity

Oregon Health & Science University is partnering with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry to bring the internationally renowned BODY WORLDS 3: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies to Portland. OHSU and OMSI are also partnering to present a free Lecture Series to accompany the exhibition. For more information on this Lecture Series click here

The OMSI exhibition, which opens June 7 for a limited engagement, represents the Northwest premier of the unique exhibition featuring more than 200 authentic organs and 25 whole-body specimens or "plastinates." These specimens of real human bodies and organs are preserved through a process called plastination that involves replacing bodily fluids and fats with fluid plastics that are hardened. The polymer preservation method, developed and patented by Germany-based anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens, makes anatomical display possible. "OHSU scientists, health care professionals and students recognize the inner workings of the body as a beautiful, intricate, colorful machine, and now the public has the opportunity to witness this beauty, up close," says OHSU President Joseph E. Robertson Jr., M.D., M.B.A..

"Being a part of BODY WORLDS 3's anatomical exhibit is a natural for OHSU. It's an outstanding exhibit with unlimited educational value, and supporting it is very much in keeping with OHSU's missions of healing, teaching, discovery and service.".
